Start with your campus status
Open Get the app and search for your school. Hooj assigns one of three campus states:
Eligible students can create accounts using an approved school email domain and participate in the campus community.
Hooj is preparing the campus. Join the waitlist so demand, school affiliation, and launch communication can be tracked.
The campus is not scheduled yet. A request helps Hooj understand interest but does not guarantee a date or immediate launch.
Campus availability, feature access, and launch timing can depend on verified demand, operational readiness, safety, moderation capacity, organizations, and the quality of the first local network.
If your school is live
Use an approved school email to sign up and complete the emailed verification code. Set up an accurate profile, then make Hooj useful before inviting everyone you know.
- Follow people and organizations you genuinely know or want to hear from.
- Publish one useful post, listing, event response, or organization update.
- Complete your profile so people can understand who they are interacting with.
- Invite a small number of relevant people into a real activity, not merely an empty download.
School-email verification establishes access to an approved domain. It is not a background check or guarantee of identity or conduct. See the Verification Guide.
If Hooj is not live yet
Join the waitlist with your school email and confirm the school shown in the form. This gives Hooj a cleaner signal than a generic personal email and lets launch communication reach the right campus audience.
Then identify the communities that could make Hooj useful on day one: active organizations, recurring event organizers, students who sell or sublease, creators who document campus life, and people who naturally connect groups.
Fake accounts, fabricated listings, invented attendance, and artificial referrals undermine launch quality and may violate the Community Guidelines.
Build a founding circle, not a mailing list
A useful founding circle includes different reasons to open Hooj. One person may post. Another runs events. Another lists dorm items. Another manages an organization. Another brings the group together.
Choose people who will actually participate and give feedback. A smaller connected group produces better discovery, safer testing, and clearer product feedback than a large group of inactive signups.
Ask each person what campus task currently feels fragmented or annoying. Build the first content around those needs rather than posting generic promotion.
Bring organizations in with a purpose
Organizations can create a durable center for leaders, members, events, posts, stories, and group communication. Start with organizations that have an active semester plan and a leader willing to keep information accurate.
- Create the organization with a real name, category, avatar, cover, and description.
- Assign owner and admin access deliberately instead of sharing one account.
- Use member invites or join codes for legitimate membership, then revoke codes that should no longer work.
- Request organization verification only after the page and supporting evidence are ready.
- Publish real events or updates that give members a reason to follow the page.
Prepare events people can act on
Events create an immediate reason to discover Hooj, but only when the information is useful. Prioritize events with confirmed organizers, accurate times, optional real locations, clear admission, and a plan for updates.
Use open attendance, RSVP approval, or ticketing according to the actual event. Do not use ticketing merely to make an event appear more established. Hosts should understand attendee requests, check-in, refunds, safety, and the Event and Ticket Terms before accepting payment.
Event stories can make launch activity visible, but they should document a real event and respect attendee privacy.
Seed listings that solve current needs
A launch marketplace should reflect the semester. Useful categories may include dorm items, electronics, furniture, textbooks, lawful tickets, moving help, and legitimate subleases when demand exists.
- Use real photos, accurate condition, a reasonable price, and the correct category.
- Choose only payment methods the seller can actually accept.
- Keep sold or unavailable listings out of active discovery.
- Use public campus meetup locations and follow the Prohibited Items Policy.
Do not preload fake inventory. A smaller marketplace with responsive sellers is more valuable than a larger one filled with stale listings.
Make launch week tangible
Give each day a reason to open Hooj rather than repeating the same download request.
Prepare accurate organization pages, a first set of useful listings, confirmed events, and a small group ready to respond.
Show one complete campus journey, such as discovering an event, joining through Hooj, and sharing the real outcome.
Highlight marketplace usefulness, organization activity, and student-created content rather than only explaining features.
Collect feedback, fix stale information, recognize useful contributors, and prepare the next real reason to return.
Use the ambassador program when it fits
Ambassadors receive a referral code, track verified and activated referrals, and can unlock available rewards based on both. A verified referral has completed Hooj signup. Activation requires meaningful participation in at least two areas such as posts, listings, offers, events, or follows.
This structure rewards useful community growth instead of raw downloads. Referral manipulation, duplicate accounts, or fabricated activity can invalidate progress and trigger enforcement.
Review the role, expectations, and current rewards on the Ambassadors page before applying.
Measure usefulness, not noise
A healthy campus launch is visible in participation: people follow each other, join organizations, respond to events, create relevant posts, save or exchange listings, and return because something changed.
Do not treat referral counts, impressions, or downloads as the entire result. Watch for inactive listings, unanswered messages, inaccurate events, empty organization pages, safety reports, and groups that cannot find their local community.
Share concrete feedback with Hooj, including the campus, workflow, expected result, actual result, device, and screenshots when relevant.
Bring Hooj to your campus
Start by searching for your school through Get the app. Join the waitlist if it is not live, or apply to become an ambassador if you want a structured launch role.
For a campus partnership, organization-led launch, or question that does not fit those paths, contact support@hooj.app with your school, role, and what you are trying to build.
Give campus social a local reason to exist
Hooj social should reveal what is happening around the campus, not imitate a generic global feed. Start with real context: move-in discoveries, organization introductions, event moments, campus questions, useful updates, and stories connected to schools, events, or organizations.
Use full-width posts when the image or video is the experience and compact cards when context or conversation matters more. Choose temporary publishing for timely content and permanent publishing for something that should remain on a profile.
Always follow the Community Guidelines, including when content is temporary or shared with a limited destination.
